Long-time community advocate Phil Paki was elevated to Honorary Waipareira Board Member at the Waipareira Annual General Meeting at Hoani Waititi Marae last night.
Waipareira Chair Ray Hall said the honour is in recognition of long community service by Uncle Phil at Hoani Waititi Marae, the Henderson Courts and Te Whānau o Waipareira.
“Uncle Phil has been involved with the marae, Waipareira and the courts in Henderson for over 30 years and his elevation is befitting his service to our whanau.” Ray said.
Uncle Phil joins Dame June Mariu and Connie Hannah as honorary board members. The Board can only have three honorary board members at any one time.
Reappointed to the Board were Evelyn Taumaunu and son Jarred (Bumper) Taumaunu.
Ray said the uncontested election – three vacancies are contested yearly – showed the community were happy with the board and its performance.
“I would like to congratulate this board for the mahi they do for our community and also thank our whānau for having faith in this board,” Ray said.
“I would also note from the annual reports that the organisation has grown exponentially.”
The Waipareira financial report was another outstanding success, Chief Financial Officer Christine Wu told the AGM, and had again been green lighted by the auditors.
Moving forward, Christine said Waipareira would continue investing in innovation, growth, social housing and, most importantly, improving the rate for the Whānau Ora workforce and increasing retention of the workforce.
