Waipareira recognised at inaugural Te Pae Herenga o Tāmaki Awards
The inaugural Te Pae Herenga o Tāmaki Matariki Awards has taken place at Aotea Centre.
Waipareira’s Management Lead for Kōrure Whānau, Jole Thomson, was the recipient of the Waitā award. This award was created to recognise Kaimahi who have displayed exceptional leadership and innovation in supporting change and development in Whānau Ora service delivery and outcomes.
Jole and her team were responsible for setting up our stadium sized vaccination centre and leading the operations during Level 4 Lockdown. Alongside this mahi, she went on to support a group of Rangatahi who became the youngest Lay Vaccinators in the country.
“It was an honour and privilege to stand next to my comrades during that time of war. I would like to give a huge mihi to the leadership at Te Whānau o Waipareira for entrusting me and allowing me to grow and flourish in this space. To each and every single person, this is something that I don’t take for me but for all of us.”
The awards ceremony recognised the diligent commitment of all providers within the Te Pae Herenga o Tāmaki collective who have worked together for over 10 years.
These providers include, Hoani Waititi Marae, Huakina Development Trust, Manukau Urban Māori Authority, Manurewa Marae, Papakura Marae, Ruapotaka Marae, Te Puna Hauora, Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whatua and Te Whānau o Waipareira.
For the past 40 years, Waipareira have provided free services and support for whānau of all ages in West Auckland – health, legal, housing and education.
