Minister of Oranga Tamariki visits Waipareira

Te Whānau o Waipareira has welcomed Minister of Oranga Tamariki, Hon. Karen Chhour, to meet our team, talk about what we see in our community and how we can work more closely to better advance positive outcomes for whānau.

Our CEO, John Tamihere reinforced our advocacy role to bring about systemic and enduring change for whānau and spoke on the importance of Section 7AA in the Oranga Tamariki Act.

“In regard to your governments view of 7AA we need to work closely here. And if replaced it needs to be with something akin. We have to fight for our mokopuna.”

Minister Chhour responded by acknowledging our work on the frontline and her visit to us definitely won’t be the last. We look forward to hosting her again out here in the West.

For the past 40 years, Waipareira have provided free services and support for whānau of all ages in West Auckland – health, legal, housing and education.
