Social workers in schools
|
 |
| Multi-Government agency funded project Social Workers in Schools
(SWIS) provides a school-based social worker to help children up to
Year 8 (age 13) make positive changes in their lives.
Trained staff
work in partnership with young people and their families to build on
strengths and resolve issues or concerns. Areas of focus include
reducing anti-social behaviour, encouraging success, improving life
skills and health and fitness, building self-esteem and confidence
and understanding domestic violence (where appropriate.
A key
advantage of the service is the opportunity for prevention and early
intervention to prevent problems escalating. Having the social
worker in schools also helps reduce the barriers to learning.
The SWIS
programme social workers are based in the following schools:
- Waitakere (in
partnership with Te Whanau O Waipareira)
- Glen Eden Primary
- New Lynn Primary
- Henderson South Primary
- Ranui Primary
- Glendene Primary
- St Leonards Rd Primary
- Kelston Intermediate
- Birdwood Primary
- Don Buck Primary
Te Whanau O
Waipareira Trust and Family Works in Waitakere work in collaboration
to provide this service. |
