WAITANGI DAY CELEBRATIONS FOR THE WHOLE WHᾹNAU

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Waitangi Day Celebrations at Hoani Waititi Marae will be a first for Whānau Waipareira and west Auckland.

An amazing day of music and entertainment will be held at the marae in Glen Eden on Thursday, February 6, 2014, to celebrate Te Tiriti o Waitangi through music, food, arts, crafts and kids' entertainment.

The day is open to all, especially locals who have never been to Hoani Waititi marae.

"The day will be special on many levels," Waipareira CEO John Tamihere said.

"It’s a great way to showcase Hoani Waititi Marae but also gather as a community and enjoy each other’s company in safe surroundings.

"It’s all about family and for Waipareira, whānau comes first."

A spectacular day will start with a pōwhiri at 10am before we kick off with live performances by international superstars The Green, from Hawai'i, along with our very own sensations J Geeks, Abbie Leigh, Magic, Sweet & Irie, Sammy J and a special reunion of kiwi greats - Golden Harvest take to the stage.

There'll be loads of fun stuff for the kids including train rides, bouncy castles, merry-go-round, balloonists, and face painting while parents and grandparents will be kept busy with stalls of Māori weaponry, traditional tattooing, whakairo/traditional carving and local artists showcasing their skills.

There's only one place to be this Waitangi Day for a free fun day of entertainment for all the whānau.

An alcohol free, drug-free and smoke-free event so bring the whānau and a good vibe.

Te Whānau O Waipareira Waitangi Day Celebrations is proudly supported by the Auckland City Council, Radio Waatea, Te Māngai Paho and Niu FM.
