8 February 2007: New CEO appointed, vroom, vroom

john3Waipareira's trust board today announced the appointment of John Tamihere as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

John is no novice to the role.  His racy style of management saw the Trust reach new heights during the nineties when he was CEO before entering politics.

John is charged with strengthening the Trust's financial position including the oversight of its investments.  Relationships with local and regional partners will be a priority as he seeks strong partners and helps to build its credibility after a few years of "bumps and knocks" on the road.

The organisation's infrastructure and systems will be finely tuned.  The Trust's workers will likely get some positive attention this year too with a revitalised approach to staff development and the nurturing of new leadership within the organisation.

Following his acceptance in front of a packed staff room yesterday, John merely said “Let's get on with the job.”  This was greeted with a rousing approval from staff who board member Ngaire Te Hira says are very excited about the appointment.

The celebration was two-fold as the new CEO also celebrated his birthday this week.  With John at the wheel again, we won't be surprised to hear the familiar squeal of 'rubber on road'.
